Sage Cross Country Teams both placed on 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams
New Orleans, LA--The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the Top Scholar-Athlete Teams for the fall of 2012 in both men’s and women’s cross country.
On the men’s side, 141 NCAA Division III teams earn All-Academic status and were representatives of 34 conferences that compose the group. The MIAC led all conferences with 10 institutions earn All-Academic status. The NCAC, Northwest Conference, and Centennial Conference followed with eight.
Cal Tech reported the highest cumulative team GPA in the country through the fall 2012 semester at 3.72. Washington (Mo.) followed at 3.61.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.
The Sage College’s Men’s Cross Country Team made its second appearance on the prestigious team in the last three seasons after first earning a spot on the 2010 squad. The 2012 Gators combined for a team cumulative grade-point-average of 3.128.
Sage’s women’s team, which started varsity competition this past fall, was also named to the 2012 USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Women’s Cross Country Team. The Gators posted an impressive 3.42 combined grade-point-average on the fall semester.
Both Sage programs are under the guidance and direction of Head Coach Jim Bowles. In addition, to this accomplishment, Sage placed three men's cross country team members on the Fall of 2012 Sage Scholar-Athlete Team, while five women were also honored. The Gators had nine women named to the Skyline Conference Fall 2012 Scholar-Athlete Team, while four men's runners were also cited.
On the women’s side, there were a total of 197 institutions represent 39 conferences that compose the group. The MIAC had the most squads on the list with 11, followed by the NESCAC, Centennial Conference, and Middle Atlantic Conference which followed with 10.
Eastern Mennonite reported the highest cumulative team GPA in the country through the fall 2012 semester at 3.76. Pomona-Pitzer followed at 3.71.
