Gators post two key win in Skyline action; Sage improves to 11-8
Purchase, NY---- The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team travelled to Purchase College on Saturday for a Skyline Conference quadmatch. The Gators topped Purchase 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-14) in the first contest of the day. Sage then beat the College of Mt. St. Vincent, 3-0 as well (25-22, 25-21, 25-21). With the pair of wins, Sage improves to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in the Skyline Conference. The 2011 Gators have already more than doubled the overall win total of the 2010 season when the program launched into Division III action.
Against the Purchase Panthers, Sage was led by the play of freshman Ryan Wilkins (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) as he had seven kills. Junior Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) added seven kills as well for the Gators. Sophomore setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) connected for 12 setting assists with three serving aces.
In the second contest, Sage downed Mt. St. Vincent in three sets as Wilkins racked up nine kills. Hilland racked up 20 kills with six digs. Ray connected for five digs with 34 setting assists. Rookie libero Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) added nine digs in the contest.
Sage returns to action on March 15 for a road contest with defending Skyline Conference Champions, Bard College in a 7 p.m. contest.
