Albany, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College and the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday in Kahl Gym. In the first match, Sage triumphed 3-1 (25-13, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23) over the Knights and followed up the win over the Panthers, 3-0 (25-3, 25-11, 25-13). Sage is now 15-14 overall and 7-1 in the Skyline.
Against the Knights, Sage took a 2-0 lead before MSMC took the third set, 25-20. After trailing for much of the fourth set, Sage rallied to post a thrilling 25-23 win in the final set.
Senior outside Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) led the Gators with her 18 kills and added a .293 attack percentage in the action and added a pair of digs with a trio of block assists. Sage's senior tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and junior middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added seven kills apiece, while Campolieta added a team-best 23 digs in the action. Nellis also had five total blocks with four block assists.
Senior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) amassed 37 setting assists with six digs, an ace and a kill.
Against Old Westbury, Sage's team combined for 22 aces with a .350 attack percentage. Liebig had four aces with 23 setting assists and four digs. Nellis had six kills with five total blocks and a dig, while Berard had a team-best 14 kills. Campolieta added eight aces with two block assists. Schneiderman racked up five digs and had four aces as well. Sophomore Allison Bardwell (Whately, MA/Frontier Regional) had five aces for Sage in the action.
Liebig, who is a CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee, now has 3,161 career setting assists which No. 2 at Sage. She has also tallied an impressive 197 career aces and stands fourth on the career list. Berard is also climbing the career kill record book as she has 900 and is 7th. She is also 8th with her 155 career total blocks, while Nellis has 108 and is No. 11 on the program's career list. Campolieta has 501 career kills and is 15th, while her 851 career digs and is closing in on making the Top 25 in the category. Scheiderman has racked up 967 career digs and stands 16th best in school history.
Sage is back in action on October 23 at Skyline Conference opponent Kings Points for a 1 p.m. league match.
