Newburgh, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team traveled to face the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference match-up. After dropping the 2016-2017 Skyline Conference opener to the Knights, Sage returned the favor with a 69-56 road win. Now 13-9 overall, Sage is 9-4 in the Skyline Conference and stand a top the North Division. MSMC falls to 11-10 overall and 6-7 in the league.
Sage's senior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) finished with another double-double after he hauled in a team-leading 14 rebounds with 17 points. Patterson also leads the team with seven double-doubles and is nationally ranked in the category. He is on his run to the 1,000 career point mark at Sage as he has 921 points after Wednesday's game. He is the Gators' fourth all-time time leading scorer, while ranking fourth as well with his 516 rebounds. With Wednesday's performance he has now played in 97 career games and is third all-time in appearances in a Sage men's basketball uniform.
Junior guard Frane Larose (Miami, FL/North Miami Beach Senior) also finished with 17 points having made three baskets from three-point range with a 6-7 showing from the line. The 17 points was a season high for the guard, who also added two assists in the action. Junior guard Jordan Devaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy) tallied 16 points with three assists and three buckets from downtown.
Junior center Thiago Conceicao (El Portal, FL/Westwood Christian) added eight boards with six points and five blocks as the Gators combined for nine blocked shots in the contest, while holding the Knights to only 38 rebounds. Sage held the commanding lead on the boards with 52, including 42 defensive rebounds and held MSMC to a 6-20 effort from three-point range.
Sage is back in action on February 11 travelling to face U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a 2 p.m. road Skyline Conference contest.
