ALBANY – The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2016-17 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2016-17 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Sage's junior Paul Reynoso (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) was named the Gator of the Year in men's soccer.
Head coach Keith Simons said of Reynoso "Paul was a huge factor in our late season run this year. He really stepped up to the plate with his leadership and competitive desire to help guide this group forward. Paul took it upon himself in difficult times to do what the team needed him to do."
Reynoso was tapped to the Skyline Second-Team on a six point, four assists, one goal season. The junior captain recorded a season-high three points with one goal and one assist in a 6-0 win at Purchase. Reynoso led Sage with four assists on the season. With one season left in his career, the midfielder ranks 4th in career assists (12), 8th in career points (26) and 9th in single-season assists (five, 2015).
Reynoso helped to lead Sage to its second Skyline Championship Final as the six seeded team. This was the second time the bottom seeded team advanced to the conference final in Skyline history. The junior also played a major role in the Gators' 2015 Skyline Conference Championship as well as its 2014 ECAC Division III Metro run.
