Albany, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted a pair of teams in conjunction with Sage's Fall Festival Tournament on Friday night. Sage hosted Potsdam State and Fredonia State on Friday. In the first match, Sage took unbeaten Potsdam State to five sets, but fell 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11). With the win, Potsdam State now stands at 8-0 on the season. Against Fredonia State (6-4), the Gators dropped a competitive match, 3-0 (25-16, 29-27, 25-21) and are now 3-8 on the year.
Against Potsdam, Sage's senior outside hitter and team tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) tallied a double-double for the second time in as many matches as she racked up 17 kills with 18 digs. She added two aces with a pair of block assists. Graduate performer Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added a personal best 25 digs and picked up 11 kills with a .235 attack percentage.
Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) exploded for a personal-best 44 digs in the match while adding two aces, while junior middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added 11 kills with six digs and three solo block for the Gators in the action.
Sophomore outside hitter Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) picked up six kills and had five total blocks with four block assists. Sage's senior tri-captain, setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 46 setting assists with seven digs and an ace.
Potsdam got 13 kills from both junior Rachel Topf and Kelsey Tompkins, while Kelsea Healis added 12 kills with 12 digs. Sloane Campbell added 32 digs, while Topf added 15 digs with two aces. The Bears combined for 14 aces in the match, but were held to a .128 attack percentage in the match. Brenda Rodda added 46 setting assists with two aces.
Against Fredonia State, Campolieta led the Gators with her 13 kills and just missed a double-double with her nine kills. She led the team with 13.0 points and made just one reception error in 11 attempts for a .909 reception percentage.
Liebig connected for 21 setting assists with 10 digs, while Schneiderman added 12 digs. Nellis added five kills with three aces and a solo block.
By night's end, Liebig had racked up her 2,686th career setting assist, ranking her No. 3 all-time at Sage, while her 169 career aces stand No. 8 all-time at Sage. Schneiderman now has 780 career digs and looking to join Sage's Top 20 as well with her efforts possibly tomorrow.
Sage is back in action on September 17 hosting the final day of the Sage Fall Festival with both the College of New Rochelle and Skidmore College visiting Kahl Gym in Albany. Sage will face the College of New Rochelle at 11 a.m., while Skidmore and the College of New Rochelle will meet at 1 p.m. The busy day wraps with Sage facing Skidmore College at 3 p.m.
