Gators drop heartbreaker to Skidmore, 3-2

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted Skidmore College in Tuesday night in a non-conference game. Deadlocked at 2-2 as the clock in regulation was winding down, Skidmore's rookie forward Emily Vinick (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) struck with the game-winner at the 87:25 mark to propel the Thoroughbreds to the 3-2 win. Skidmore improves to 5-1-2, while the loss puts Sage at 4-3.

Skidmore jumped out a 1-0 lead as senior forward Brianna Worobel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) scored her first goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Carly Craft (Hanover, NH/Hanover) at the 5:35 mark.  Sage tied the game as sophomore forward Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) scored on the feed from sophomore Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) at 26:16. Skidmore took the 2-1 lead at the half at junior forward Cat Quintana (Bothell, WA) scored on a pass from sophomore Vanessa Eljaiek (Evanston, IL) at 40:22.

Sage tied the action at 2-2 at the 60:46 mark as junior midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) scored her fourth goal of the year.

With time waning in regulation, Sage's rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had a goal kick and Skidmore's Vinick was in the right place blasting the ball back at her just along the top of her fingers into the net for what would be the game-winner.

Shertzer took the loss with six saves and three goals allowed. Sophomore Ava Keller (Minneapolis, MN) started in goal for Skidmore making two saves with one goal allowed in 45 minutes of work. Sophomore Vivian Montgomery-Walsh (Catonsville, MD) entered at the half and made three saves with one goal allowed in earning the win as she is now 1-0-2 in net.
