Utica, NY—Sage travelled to Utica College in Saturday night for an Empire 8 field hockey match-up. The host Pioneers earned a 4-0 win to improve to 3-7 overall with a 2-1 mark in the league. The loss snaps' Sage's three-match win streak and puts the Gators at 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The game was deadlocked at 0-0 at the half before Utica added three goals in the third quarter to break the scoreless tie. Sydney Scaccia provided the first goal which would be the game-winner at the 35:12 mark. Madeline Krecidlo added a goal and an assist as did Sabrina Whitehouse.
Sage's sophomore goalie Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made 14 saves in the loss. Utica's Megan Chamberlain did not make a save in earning the shutout victory.
The Gators are back in action on Tuesday, October 8 hosting Oswego State at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match at UAlbany's Alumni Field.
