Trio of women's lacrosse players honored by IWLCA for Academic Prowess


Albany, NY –  The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has announced the 2019 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2018-19 academic year. The IWLCA honored 312 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA for the 2018-2019 academic year. Sage had three student-athletes honored with the release of the Division III team having qualified for the program. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Sage's juniors Anne Risler (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) as well as senior Tashariff Carr (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom.

Risler a junior attacker at Sage is majoring in occupational therapy at Sage. Earlier this summer she was also inducted into Sage's Athletic Honor Society for her outstanding performance in the classroom. On the 2019 season, she finished as the Gator high scorer with 34 points on 32 goals with two assists, despite missing a handful of games with illness.  Risler ranks in a tie for the fifth spot on Sage's career points list with 68 points, while also standing fifth in career goals with 59.

Gage, a junior midfielder and team co-captain, was the team's second leading scorer in 2019 with 28 points on 20 goals and was the co-assist leader. Gage, also an occupational therapy major, is eighth with her 57 career points and also 10th in goals with 39, while standing third in career assists with 18. Gage moved into the No. 2 spot in career ground balls with 105, while also standing second in career draw controls with 118 and third in caused turnovers with 58.

Carr, a first-year letterwinner with the 2019 Gators, helped to anchor the defense this spring. As a senior she helped the Gators with her defensive skills and added graduated from the College in May with a degree in public policy, advocacy, and civic engagement after having been very active on campus in a number of clubs and activities in both student and residence life.
