Vaalstuen lefts Sage past MCLA, 1-0

Vaalstuen lefts Sage past MCLA, 1-0

North Adams, MA — Sage's sophomore midfielder Christian Vaalstuen (Lillestrom, Norway) scored the game's only goal with just three minutes left to play to lift the visiting Gators of The Sage Colleges got past the MCLA Trailblazers 1-0 this evening at Shewcraft Field.  The Gators improve to 4-4 overall while MCLA falls to 1-6.

Neither team could generate much offense in the opening half of play as they combined for just 12 first half shots.  In the second half, not much had changed for the majority of play.  That was until the 87th minute when Vaalstuen came through with his first goal of the season.

He collected his first goal of the season as he beat MCLA keeper Sam Edge and in the process, gave the Gators the 1-0 lead.  MCLA would only muster up one shot over the final three minutes as the visitors prevailed.

MCLA held a 17-11 shot advantage in the contest and a 7-5 mark in corners.

Sam Edge took the loss for MCLA stopping five shots. Sage's sophomore keeper Lucas Bourdeau (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) would collect the shutout as he also notched 5 saves and is now 4-4 with three shutouts to his credit this fall.

Sage returns to action on September 28 travelling to Alfred University for a 1 p.m. Empire 8 match-up with the Saxons.
