Sage is a perfect 5-0 after downing Purchase easily, 3-0
Troy, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Saturday afternoon in the Neff Center in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams. Sage posted a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-9, 25-16) to improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Purchase drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league. The Gators are off to the best start in the program's 41-year history.
Freshman middle hitter Kelsey Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led the team with her six kills, while sophomores Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) and Jillian Schwab (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) each had five kills in the action. Sophomore Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) added 11 digs with four serving aces for the Gators.
Rookie middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) added three total blocks with four kills for the Gators, while junior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 25 setting assists with 11 digs.
For the Panthers, sophomore outside hitter Jenna Nardi (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) had six kills with four digs. Freshman hitter Megan Toole (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) had 11 digs in the match with four kills. Rookie Maggie Brenenstuhl (Schaghticoke, NY/Hoosic Valley) had 12 setting assist with four digs for the Panthers.
The Gators will travel to St. Joseph's (LI) for a Skyline Conference Tri-match on Sunday with the first match at 2 p.m. against Yeshiva and a 4 p.m. match against the host, St. Joe's. Purchase College returns to action on September 11, hosting Brooklyn College in a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
