Gators Break Three School Records at Final Meet Before E8 Championships
TROY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Outdoor Track and Field had its final competition before the 2026 Empire 8 Conference Championships on Friday at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI.
The Gators set three program records and registered a baker's dozen of top-15 finishes at the meet.
Freshman Savannah Smith (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) broke the school standard in the discus with a toss of 29.19m. The mark, which was good for 14th out of 24 competitors, bested a record that had stood since April 2019.
Freshman Presley Gosselin (Whitehall, NY/Whitehall Central) and freshman Ashley Bovee (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) each registered top-five showings. Gosselin tied for fourth in the high jump by clearing 1.28m, while Bovee was fifth in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:19.37.
On the men's side, senior Dylan Lawless (Slingerlands, NY/Guilderland/HVCC) and freshman Christopher Whalen (Arlington, VT/Arlington Memorial) continued to excel.
Lawless lowered his record in the 110m hurdles, completing the event in 16.47. The senior, who was 12th out of 18 competitors in his record setting performance, tallied the team's best placing this afternoon. In the high jump, he leaped 1.75m to finish fifth.
Whalen improved upon his record in the 800m run, crossing the line in 1:59.20. The time put the rookie eighth out of 52 entries.
Both RSC squads finished 11th out of 13 teams.
The 2026 E8 Outdoor Track and Field Championships are slated for May 1 and May 2 at Alfred.
