Cecelia-Storey Breaks Program Record in the Hammer Throw
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Russell Sage College Outdoor Track and Field opened its outdoor schedule at Saturday's Yellow Jacket Open, hosted by American International.
Freshman Christopher Whalen (Arlington, VT/Arlington Memorial) won the 5,000m run with a program-record time of 16:01.62. The clocking bettered the previous RSC standard by more than 29 seconds.
Junior Mercedez Cecelia-Storey (Pine Hill, NY/Onteora) broke the program's hammer throw with a mark of 34.92m. The distance, two meters better than the past school record, was good for sixth place.
The efforts were part of RSC's seven top-ten finishes and ten top-15 performances.
Jacob Haynes (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central), a graduate student, completed 1,500m in 4:50.72, good for seventh place.
Senior Dylan Lawless (Slingerlands, NY/Guilderland/HVCC) finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 54.53.
A trio of Gators: freshman Kishamar Glasgow (West Harrison, NY/Harrison), senior Stephen Fleury (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) and Isaac Langer (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills), a graduate student, all had top-eight showings in the javelin, coming in at sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively. Their tosses were 34.86m, 32.05m, and 30.38m.
RSC is slated to compete next on Saturday, April 4 at Utica.
