Pair of School Records Fall at RPI
TROY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Outdoor Track and Field kicked off a run of three-straight competitions in the Capital Region this weekend at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational.
The Gators tallied two program records and seven top-15 performances across the Friday and Saturday meet.
Freshman Christopher Whalen (Arlington, VT/Arlington Memorial) continued to shine as a rookie, lowering his program record in the 1,500m run on Friday night. He clocked in at 4:00.17, more than nine seconds faster than his previous best, to finish seventh in the seeded portion of the event.
Junior Mercedez Cecelia-Storey (Pine Hill, NY/Onteora) increased her program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 35.06m. The toss was good for 15th out of 31 entries.
The team's highest finish of the meet went to senior Alexius Smith (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) in the high jump. She cleared 1.48m to take fifth place.
RSC finished in 14th out of 16 competing schools. The women totaled 4.5 points, while then men registered two points.
The Gators are scheduled to compete next on Friday at UAlbany.
