Sage women's lacrosse team drops contest to RIC

Providence, R.I.-Sophomore attackers Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) and Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI) each had a game-high four goals to lead Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team to a 20-2 victory over Sage. |

With the victory today, RIC (2-1) has already surpassed their win total from the 2009 campaign. The Anchorwomen held the advantage in shots (38-12), ground balls (35-13) and draw controls (15-9). |

Drolet added two assists, three ground balls and one draw control, while Voyer chipped in with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Haley Lattinville (North Kingstown, RI) had three goals for RIC, while junior attacker Suany Almonte (Warwick, RI), sophomore midfielder Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI), freshman midfielder Libby Lazar (Wakefield, RI) and freshman midfielder Ashley Appel (Foxboro, MA) chipped in with two goals apiece. Lattinville had a game-high six ground balls and Lazar chipped in with a game-high four caused turnovers. |

RIC dominated the game from the first whistle, scoring four goals in less than seven minutes of play. Sage cut the lead to three when senior Karalin Weilacher (Ticonderoga, NY) found the back of the net after receiving a pass from sophomore midfielder Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY). |

That would be the closest Sage would get as RIC rattled off nine more goals to end the half up by 12, 13-1. Drolet and Voyer paced the Anchorwomen attack down the stretch scoring two goals apiece. |

At the half, RIC held the advantage in shots (25-4), ground balls (19-5) and draw controls (11-4). |

Keeping the same pressure they had in the first half, the Anchorwomen came out and scored the first goal of the second half. However, Sage answered right back on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Gabrielle Piccione (West Winfield, NY) with 25:25 remaining in the game. |

RIC scored the final six goals of the game led by a goal and an assist by Childs. |

Freshman goalkeeper Kerri Montgomery (Franklin, MA) was outstanding in net making eight saves and only allowing two goals for the Anchorwomen. She now improves to 2-1 on the season. Sage goalkeeper, freshman Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY), allowed 20 goals and made 11 saves in the loss. She sees her record drop to 0-4 on the year. |
