Win streak grows to 15 as Gators top Golden Eagles, 57-43

Albany, NY— The Sage College's women's basketball team hosted the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (LI) on Saturday in a Skyline Conference game in Kahl Gym on Saturday afternoon.  Sage posted a 57-43 win to watch their win streak continue to grow. The Gators are riding a school-record 15-game win streak, while standing at 16-2 overall and 12-0 in the Skyline, while SJC drops to 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the Skyline.

SJC jumped out to a 10-2 lead to open the action and led by as many as nine points (11-2 at 5:15) before rookie guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) tallied a pair of back to back three-pointers to wake up the Gators as they then went on a 13-4 run and tied the action at 15-15 with 1:20 for the first tie of the game. Sage led 18-15 at the end of the first quarter and led 28-18 at the half as Holmes paced Sage with her eight points, while rookie Emily Parlsow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) added seven points with four assists.  Holmes finished with 14 points, while Parlsow added nine with four assists.

For the Golden Eagles, sophomore Andrea Iavarone (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) had seven points in the first half with five boards, a block and a steal. She led all players with her double-double on 19 points with 12 rebounds. Senior guard Rynese Smith (Greenport, NY/Bellport) added nine points with 11 rebounds and three steals for the Golden Eagles.

By game's end, the Gators were paced by the play of sophomore forward Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as she had 16 points with five rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Junior guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) had six points with one three-pointer and continues her run to overtake Sage's career three-point record as she is No. 2 with 115 treys, standing behind Carly Valleee's 126 three-pointers (2009-2013).

Sage returns to action on February 1 travelling to nearby Union College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up, while the Golden Eagles are back in action hosting SUNY-Old Westbury on February 3 at 6 p.m. in a league contest.
