Sage falls short againt St. Joseph's, 60-49
Despite a strong second-half push, the Gators fell to Skyline Conference foe on Saturday.
Albany, NY--- The Sage College women's basketball team hosted St. Joseph's College on Saturday in the Kahl Campus Center in a Skyline Conference game. St. Joseph's College collected the win as they beat Sage, 60-49. St. Joseph's College improve to 14-10 overall and 11-6 in the Skyline Conference. Sage drops to 9-14 overall and 7-10 in the league.
St. Joseph's senior forward Trish McMahon (Patocghue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) finished with 18 points with eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals to pace her team to their third straight win. She tallied 11 points in the second half.
The Golden Eagles used a balanced offense to take a 30-17 lead at the half as both senior guard Corissa Stack (Patchogue, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) and McMahon had seven points each. Sophomore guard Nicole Rufrano (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) added six points as well for St. Joseph's. By game's end, Stack finished with 10 points, while Rufrano added 13 points and senior forward Dana Carney (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) added nine points with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Sage honored their 2010 senior prior to the game in conjunction with Senior Day, Carlin DeMarinis (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), Amber Muir (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons), and Amanda Crans (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen). Each has carved their names in Sage's record book over their careers.
DeMarinis led all players in the first half as she racked up 12 points, making four three-point baskets. She struck gold as she hit her first four three-point attempts for the Gators and helped the team with a 57.1% three-point FG% in the first stanza.
DeMarinis led all players with her 20 points after connecting for five three-pointers and hitting 7-15 overall from the floor. She moves closer to putting her name atop Sage's career three-point field goals as he has 97 heading into the regular-season finale next week. She is currently in third place behind Jamie Desso's 99 and Kelly Murphy's 103 career three-point baskets.
Muir added nine points for the Gators and was high-rebounder with 10 caroms, marking the 17th time on her career she led the team in rebounds in a game. Junior forward Jessica Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Gators.
