Sage wows home crowd en route to a 75-64 win over Old Westbury
Troy, NY--- The Sage Colleges men's basketball team hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon in the Neff Athletic Center. The day was filled with a number of special activities to commemorate the College's celebration of Black History Month. The Gators did not disappoint the home crowd as they tallied the 75-64 win. Sage improves to 10-10 overall and 8-8 in the Skyline Conference. OW drops to 8-11 overall and 7-7 in the league.
Sage led 46-30 at the break and the Panthers did not retreat as they fought back and tied the action at 53-53 with 10:50 left. After a series of ties and close lead changes by both teams, the Gators would go ahead for good with 9:21 left as junior Pat Lanoue (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) added a layup, giving Sage a 56-55 lead. By game's end, Lanoue would have 15 points for Sage with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Sophomore Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) with connected for a team-high 17 points in the contest, while junior forward Dalton Austin-Michaud (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) paced the Gators with his double-double as he finished with 16 points with 10 rebounds. Joining the team's other scoring leaders in double-digits was senior Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Schenectady) as he had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
OW's senior forward Frantz Granjean (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) led all scorers with his 24 points and led his team on the boards with 11 caroms and three blocked shots. Freshman forward Matthew Duffy (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) added 15 points with four assists, while junior guard Jamal Little (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) tallied 13 points with three steals.
The Gators held a commanding edge on the boards with a 47-34 rebounding difference, while also holding the Panthers to a 37.1% (26-70) performance shooting from the floor.
On February 8, Sage will travel to Maritime College for a7 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up, while Old Westbury will visit Farmingdale State that same evening for an 8 p.m. league match-up.
