Gators fall to Southern Vermont on the road on Wednesday night
Despite having three players finish in double-digit scoring, the Gators fell on Wednesday night.
Bennington, VT---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team traveled to Southern Vermont College for a non-conference game on Wednesday night. The Mountaineers overcame a 47-45 halftime deficit to tally the 98-69 win and improve to 2-0 overall, while the Gators drop to 0-2 on the young season.
Freshman forward Deshawn Hamlet (Hartford, CT/Buckley) erupted for a game-high 34 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mountaineers to the win after netting 22 points in the first half of action. Senior guard Lance Spratling (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) also finished with a double-double after scoring 24 points with 11 rebounds.
For Sage, senior forward Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Schenectady) led the way with 15 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Marcus Hunter (Ridge, NY/Longwood) tallied 14 points, while junior Pat Lanoue (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) had 12 points.
Sage returns to action on Friday, November 19 hosting Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the Kahl Center. Tip-off in the Gators' home opener is set for 7 p.m. as Sage kicks off their Relay for Life weekend. Donations will be collected at the door to benefit the Relay for Life.
The 7th Annual Relay For Life of The Sage Colleges takes place on Saturday, November 20 from noon to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 21. The event is being held in the gymnasium located in Kahl Campus Center on the Albany Campus, 140 New Scotland Avenue. Opening ceremonies are at 1:00 p.m., while the Survivor/Caregiver Ceremony and lap will take place at 4 p.m. "Luminaria" will take place at 8 p.m. and "Fight Back" will take place at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. The event currently has 108 registered participants from 22 teams and has raised $13,600 towards a goal of $25,000. Last year., The Sage Colleges raised $23,400 and received a division award for the highest increase in net income of any college event in upstate New York.
