Records fall as Sage men connect for another win!
Sage downed the College of Mt. St. Vincent, 84-78 and improved to 8-8 overall and 6-6 in the league on Wednesday night.
Albany, NY--- The Sage Colleges men's basketball team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Wednesday evening in a Skyline Conference contest in the Kahl Center. Sage tallied the 84-78 win to knock off the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent. The victory helps the second-year program establish a number of program standards with their eight overall and six Skyline Conference wins after tallying seven overall and five in the league in their first season.
Sage is now 8-8 overall and 6-6 in six in the Skyline Conference riding a three-game win streak. The Dolphins drop to 12-6 overall and 7-6 in the league having dropped their last four contests.
The Gators held a 38-33 edge at the break as sophomore center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) connected for 11 points and senior Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Schenectady) had 10 points. The Gators shot 66.7% from three-point range (4-6), while connecting on 53.6% of their shots from the floor (15-28). The Dolphins were led in the first stanza by senior guard Dino Johnson (Fort Johnson, NY/Amsterdam) as he had 13 points and was 3-5 from three-point range in the first half of action. Joining him in double-digit points in the first half was sophomore forward George Naldjieff (Miami, FL/Archbishop Carroll) with 10 points on a 5-7 effort.
By game's end, Sage's junior Dalton Austin-Michaud (Valatie, NY/Icahbod Crane) added his second straight game-high 23 points off the bench to lead the team and tallied a double-double with 13 rebounds. Junior Pat Lanoue (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) added 18 points to finish as the second high-scorer for Sage, while Faragon was held to one point in the second half and tallied 12 points with nine rebounds. Sage was held scoreless in the second half and finished with 11 points.
Junior forward Cody Gauvard (Rockaway, NY/St. Edmunds) added 22 points with eight rebounds and three assists, while Johnson tallied 20 points with five assists and two steals before fouling out of the contest. Naldjieff finished with 14 points in the setback for the CMSV.
Down the stretch CMSV made the contest tight as Sage struggled from the free throw line, converting just 47.5% of their shots (19-40), including a 14-32 stretch in the second half, while the Dolphins managed to hit some clutch shots and keep the game within reach until the waning seconds of play.
Sage returns to action on January 29 travelling to St. Joseph's College for a 5:30 p.m. Skyline Conference game, while the Dolphins will host MY-Poly on Saturday at 3 p.m.
