RSC Softball Sweeps "Senior Day" Doubleheader to Clinch E8 Playoff Berth

The Gators, heading to the postseason for the fifth-straight year, got out to a 6-0 lead to take the opener 10-5 before scoring the final 10 runs of a 13-5 (6 innings) victory in the second game..
"I am very happy we could get the two wins on Senior Day," said Head Coach Stephanie McKay. "It's a great way to send the seniors out and hope we can continue the momentum through the end of the regular season and into the postseason."
RSC cleanup hitter Hannah Smith (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) went 5-for-8 with two runs scored and three RBI in the sweep. The junior infielder had two doubles in the nightcap.
Sophomore Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) continued to effectively set the table out of the leadoff spot, going a combined 4-for-7 with five runs scored, three RBI, a triple, a double, and three stolen bases. The infielder, who finished the day tied for second in the E8 with 51 hits on the season, slashed .600/.900/.625 with ten runs scored and seven RBI across six games this week.
In the first game, junior catcher Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) paced RSC by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Junior infielder Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) added a 2-for-4, two RBI effort in the win.
Four Gators tallied multiple hits in the second game. Tyler was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Smith went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Junior right-hander Bailey Catlin (Petersburg, NY/Berlin/Saint Rose) tossed three shutout innings of relief to help the RSC erase a 5-3 deficit and secure the sweep. She allowed just two earned runs across 10.2 innings spanning three appearances during the 4-2 week.
Senior catcher/outfielder Olivia Simone stood out for SUNY Brockport (13-21/5-15 E8), going a combined 4-for-7 with a run scored and an RBI.
On Tuesday, RSC (14-20/10-8 E8) and Union are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader at the Clifton Park Commons.
Senior Day: Before the game, Russell Sage College Athletics recognized three student-athletes: senior outfielder Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls), senior pitcher/infielder Emma Anderson (Tolland, CT/Tolland), and junior pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) for their contributions to the Softball program.
