ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College softball battled with SUNY Geneseo in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon, falling twice, 8-0 and 7-5.
Junior pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) (7-8) got the start for the Gators in game one, punching out five in her five innings of work. The lone RSC hit came off the bat of freshman outfielder Carmela DeMaio (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) in the third inning.
The Gators trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, before sophomore infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) ripped a run-scoring single and freshman Emily Markowski (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) hit a two-run double to give RSC a 5-4 advantage.
The Knights tacked on three to regain the lead in the top of the seventh, and shut down Russell Sage in the bottom half to complete the doubleheader sweep.
RSC (12-20/8-8 E8) is slated to host SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon for 'Senior Day'.
