Beikirch reaps Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week honors
New York, NY---- The Sage Colleges' softball rookie catcher and infielder Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
She led the Gators last week as they established a school record for most wins in a season as they improved to 19-12, bettering the old standard of 18 wins in a campaign. She batted .526 last week with 10 hits, including a pair of doubles, a triple and a home run. She had a .895 slugging percentage last week with five runs scored and five RBIs.
Overall on the 2012 campaign, she has excelled. She owns a .480 batting average and has 14 stolen bases on the year with 12 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs. She is now second on the single-season home run record (6), while looking to become the single-season hit leader. In addition, she has scored 30 runs and started all 31 games for the Gators, while posting a .735 slugging percentage to go with her .509 on-base percentage.
She starts this week with 47 hits, just three off holding the record currently owned by Melissa Roy (49) 1999.
In her short time at Sage, she has already reaped Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week honors twice as well as a pair of Skyline Conference Player of the Week selections as well as one ECAC citation.
Sage returns to action on April 18 when they host SUNY-New Paltz in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Robison Field.
