Sage delivers in Brown's debut with a pair of wins
Kissimmee, FL---- The Sage Colleges softball team opened the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon competing in the Orlando Spring Rebel Games. Sunday's action marked the debut of Sage's new softball coach, Jamie Brown as the mentor of the Gators. The young Gators responded with a pair of opening day wins. The Gators opened the season facing Waynesburg College (PA) in the opener as they defeated them, 8-4. Against Emmanuel College, Sage tallied a convincing 8-0 win in six innings. Sage improves to 2-0 on the year.
Sage returns to action on Monday facing Hiram College at 3:00 p.m. and Westminster College at 5:00 p.m. in Kissimmee, FL.

Sage's junior pitcher Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain) worked a complete game in earning her first win of the season. She fanned five batters and scattered four hits in going the distance. She stands a 1-0 on the year after leading last year's squad with 68 strikeouts.
For Sage, senior Megan Welcome (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) had a pair doubles and now has 21 career doubles, standing second all-time on Sage's career doubles leader board. She was 2-5 at the plate with an RBI to help the cause in the contest.
Senior Rachel Smith (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) went deep with a solo homerun in the fourth inning and finished with three RBIs in the game. Rookie infielder Karlie Williams (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs as well.
Sophomore catcher Tricia Gaulin (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) drove in a pair of runs as well as the Gators combined for 13 hits in the opener.

Smith was effective on both sides of the ball as she tossed a complete game shutout in her opening appearance on the rubber and was also 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Smith (1-0), fanned eight batters and yielded just one hit in six innings of work.
Sophomore Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) was 3-4 in the nightcap with a pair of runs driven in as the Gators jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one full inning of play. Sophomore Chantal Ceragioli (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) was 2-3 as well for Sage.
