Gators split results on day two of Florida trip
Kissimmee, FL---- The Sage Colleges softball team was in action on Monday at the Orlando Spring Rebel Games. The Gators dropped an extra-inning decision to Hiram College (7-5, 8 innings), but rebounded with a 2-0 win over Westminster College (PA). The Gators are 3-1 on the season.
Sage returns to action on Wednesday facing Bridgewater College (VA) at 1 p.m. and Trine College at 3:00 p.m. in Kissimmee, FL.

Despite a strong offensive showing from junior Rachel Smith (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) who was 2-4 and drove in a pair of runs, the Gators dropped their first contest of the young season in extra-innings. Rookie Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was also 2-4 for Sage with a pair of runs scored.
Sage's junior pitcher Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain) went the distance, but took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the year. She scattered 11 hits over the eight-inning match-up and struck out three in the action.

Sophomore Hillary Faas (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) was 2-4 in the nightcap with an RBI to help the squad to their second shutout win in as many days. Sophomore Chantal Ceragioli (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) was 1-3 with an RBI.
Smith picked up her second win in as many appearances as she tossed a two-hit shutout, while fanning four in the seven innings of work. She improves to 2-0.
