WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – In a makeup of an August postponement, Russell Sage College Field Hockey fell 4-1 this evening at the University of Saint Joseph.
RSC scored on its only shot on goal, which came in the second quarter off the stick of sophomore forward Skyler Van Wormer (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland/SUNY Oneonta). The tally halved a 2-0 deficit, thanks to a pair of USJ goals 3:52 apart spanning the period break.
Goalkeeper Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) (Loss, 4-5), helped the Gators, out-shot by a 32-4 margin, stay within striking distance. She made 17 stops, a season-high for the sophomore, who had the highwater mark for goalkeeper saves in a game regardless of division last autumn. Brand has now made 10 or more saves 13 times in her career.
RSC, playing without a sub, kept it a one-goal contest until the host Blue Jays (6-5) scored twice in the final 9:03.
The Gators (4-5) play next on Saturday at SUNY Brockport.
