Sage drops game to NEC as Veeder breaks another scoring record
Schenectady, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted New England College on Wednesday night at Union College's College Park Field. New England College tallied the 20-7 win to improve to 1-3, while the loss puts Sage at 1-4.
Sage's junior captain Alexa Veeder (Earlton, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) added five goals and an assist in the contest with six draw controls. She broke the Gators' single-season goal scoring mark. Veeder leads the team in scoring with a program-best 24 goals, breaking the old mark set in 2009 by Brianna Thompson with 20. She also has an active single-season record as she has 24 goals with four assists for 28 points in just five contests with Sage.
Sophomore Alayna Kaiser (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added two goals with an assist, elevating her season total to three goals, three assists for six points.
NEC's sophomore Emily Bamberger (Brimfield, MA/Tantasqua) also finished with five goals in the action with an assist to pace the Pilgrims to the first win of the 2012 season. Senior Amanda Naimie (York, ME/Waynflete School) added three goals with a game-best six assists for nine points. Senior midfielder Chantale Lacroix (Manchester, NH/Manchester Central) also netted three goals and racked up 11 draws in the contest.
Sophomore keeper Mary Kate Hayward (Queensbury, NY/Glens Falls) made five saves in the action, while NEC's junior Rebecca Harvey (Natick, MA/Natick) made four saves in earning the win.
Sage will be back in action on March 24, when they host the College of Mt. St. Vincent in a noon Skyline Conference contest at RPI's Renwyck Field. New England College hosts Roger Williams University at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
