Gators drop action to Pioneers
Troy, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted Utica College on Saturday afternoon at Renwyck Field on the campus of RPI. The Pioneers collected the 17-0 win to improve to 1-1, while Sage falls to 0-2 on the young season.
Utica held a 10-0 lead at the half and tallied with win behind the four goals of senior midfielder Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta). Sophomore Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough) and rookie Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) each connected for three goals as well in the contest.
Sage's junior goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) finished with a personal-best 21 saves in the match and played a tremendous contest. Her 21 saves ranks third all-time for most stops in a contest for the Gators. She continues to add to her impressive active career record for most saves as she now has 197.
Utica's senior goalie Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) started the action and recorded the win after making four saves. Junior Stephanie Belanger (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) made one save in the second half to lift the Pioneers to the win.
Sage will be back in action on March 15, when they face Bard on the road at 8 p.m. at Dietz Stadium (Kingston, NY). Utica returns to action on March 21 travelling to SUNY-IT for a 4 p.m. contest.
