Sage women's lacrosse team and players among the top stats leaders in Division 3
Troy, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team and several players rank among the NCAA Division III's statistical leaders with the release of the first national rankings this afternoon.
Sage ranks nationally in eight categories including an impressive 40th in ground balls per game (23.0), while ranking 117th in scoring defense (13.5 gpg) and 119th in caused turnovers (6.5 per game).
Sage's junior goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) leads the team with her performance in goal and ranks fourth in the country with her 16.0 saves per game average. Reed finished with a personal-best 21 saves in the match with Utica and played a tremendous contest. Her 21 saves ranks third all-time for most stops in a contest for the Gators. She continues to add to her impressive active career record for most saves as she now has 197. Reed also ranks 35th in saves percentage (0.534), 41st in saves (31.0), and 44th ground balls per game (4.5).
Also ranked for the Gators in the first release of national statistics is Sage's junior captain Alexa Veeder (Earlton, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) as she is also 44th with her 4.5 ground ball pickups per game and 183rd with her 3.0 draw controls per game. Veeder leads the Gators with five goals this season after scoring all five in the team's home opener against Regis College on March 9.
Sage senior Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) also ranks 178th in ground ball pickups per game (3.0). Butler is the all-time leading scorer in Sage program history as she has 35 points on 31 goals and four assists in her time in a Gator uniform.
Also ranked for the Gators in the first release is sophomore midfielder Alayna Kaiser (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) as she ranks 229th with her 1.5 caused turnovers per game average.
Sage will be back in action on March 15, when they face Bard on the road at 8 p.m. at Dietz Stadium (Kingston, NY).
