Gators split with Dolphins after offensive explosion for 6 homers in nightcap
Jenn Ahearn tallied 2 more home runs to help the Gators beat the Dolphins, 8-7 in the nightcap.

The Gators of the Sage Colleges collected a split on Sunday with the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent. The Dolphins won the first game 6-1 and the Gators took the nightcap, 8-7. Sage stands at 4-24 overall with a 3-7 record in the Skyline Conference. CMSV stands at 8-18 overall with a 3-7 record in the league. The Gators have now won four of their last five games.
CMSV tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Gators scored an unearned run in the fourth inning. Sage’s freshman Gabriella Skillen (Milford, NY) took the loss after allowing just one earned run off 13 hits with three strikeouts. She falls to 3-11 on the year.
Sage’s bats were very active as they combined for six home runs in the game as sophomore Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) belted a pair of home runs in the game marking her second game this week with such heroics. Ahearn now has five home runs this year and has elevated her career total to nine, which is right behind senior Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) added her tenth career home run on Sunday. Ahearn’s five homers this season ranks second all-time on the Gators single-season record list.
Junior Allison Bishop (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added a home run and was 3-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs, while Ahearn drove in three runs in the game. She has 15 RBI’s on the season to lead the team in RBI’s with rookie catcher Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany Central) who also connected on a homer as did sophomore Meghan Welcome (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) on Sunday.
Sage’s sophomore Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY/Chatham) worked four plus innings for the Gators with four earned runs and a pair of strikeouts. Skillen came in the game and worked three innings in earning the win after yielding just one earned run with two strikeouts. Skillen stands at 4-11 after the win in relief in the night cap. With her performance on Sunday, Knights has now worked in 183.1 innings on her career and is ninth all-time on the Gator career list. She also moved into the No. 9 spot on the career strikeout list with her 62 K’s, moving ahead of Judi Beauregard (61).
The Gators are back in action on Wednesday, April 21 hosting Southern Vermont College in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. at Robison Field.
