Softball team comes close on Tuesday, but falls twice
Sage nearly rallied to beat Wisconsin-Lutheran on Tuesday. The Gators dropped the nightcap to Muskingum.
Clermont, FL----The Sage Colleges softball team continues action on Tuesday on their spring training trip at the National Training Center. The Gators faced two opponents on Tuesday with a morning game against Wisconsin-Lutheran College and game in the afternoon against Muskingum University. WLC tallied a 6-4 win over Sage in the first game and Muskingum picked up the 11-0 triumph in the second contest. Sage drops to 0-5 on the year, while WLC is 1-2 and Muskingum, the 2001 NCAA Division III Champions, are 2-1.

The Gators were paced in the contest by junior Allison Bishop (Troy, Lansingburgh) as she tallied a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the team pull within two runs. Bishop went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs to lead her team. The late-game comeback was cut short by the Eagles’ senior pitcher Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, WI) gave up just one run off three hits in two innings of work.
Sage’s senior short stop Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) added a double in the game, while rookie Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany Central) added a double as Sage had a season-high seven hits in the game.
Freshman Nichole French (Harrisville, NY/Harrisville Central) had her debut cut short as she lasted just 0.2 innings and gave up a pair of earned runs and four walks. Sage’s freshman pitcher Gabriella Skillen (Milford, NY/Milford Central) came in the contest in relief and worked 6.1 innings with just one earned run off four hits.

Muskingum’s sophomore Sarah Beaver (Akron, OH) threw a no-hitter in the night cap to help her team improve to 2-1. Beaver (2-0) struck out three and walked just one in the game and got plenty of offensive support as MU had two doubles, and two triples on seven hits.
Sage’s sophomore pitcher Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY/Chatham) took the loss and is now 0-2 as she yielded seven earned runs off seven hits with five walks.
The Gators will return to action on Thursday, March 11 when they face Dominican University (IL) at 9:30 a.m.
