Sage tallies a split with MCLA
Sage's softball team posted a 4-3 win over the Trailblazers to collect the victory.
North Adams, MA---- The Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) hosted the Gators of Sage College on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. MCLA took the first game, 9-8 in nine innings. The night cap saw the Gators triumph, 4-3. MCLA is now 10-14 overall, while Sage is 1-23.

MCLA’s junior Jaclyn Candelet (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) drove in the winning runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to help her team to the 9-8 win. She was 2-5 with a pair of RBI’s in the contest. Sage’s sophomore Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) belted a pair of homeruns in the game as she had a two-run shot in the opening inning and added a solo shot in the fifth inning to tie the game at 6-6. Junior Allison Bishop (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) had an impressive day at the plate as she was 3-5, while senior Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) was 2-5 with a pair of RBIs and her 31st career leading double.

Sage’s freshman Gabriella Skillen (Milford, NY) had a busy day after working 8.1 innings in the first game on the day to suffer the loss, and returned to work five innings to get the win after allowing a pair of earned runs off five hits with a strikeout and is now 1-10.
Offensively, the Gators had eight hits, including four doubles. Ahearn, Bishop, sophomore Meghan Welcome (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), and rookie catcher Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany Central) all added doubles, while Welcome drove in a pair of runs, including the game-winner and was 2-3 with a run scored.
Sage returns to action on Saturday, April 17 for a 1:00 p.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader at Purchase College.
