Gators sweep Purchase as many star
Sage's softball team found success on both sides of the plate on Saturday as they beat Purchase twice
Purchase, NY--- The Sage Colleges softball team extended their win streak and swept the Panthers of Purchase College on Saturday in a Skyline Conference doubleheader. Sage took game one 4-3 in eight innings and posted a 10-6 victory in the nightcap. Sage stands at 3-23 overall and 2-6 in the league, while Purchase falls to 8-17 overall and 2-8 in the league.

Sage’s bats connected four eight hits, including five doubles in the contest. In the eighth innings, sophomore Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added what would be the game-winning hit as she had an RBI double and scored Allison Bishop (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) give Sage a 4-3 lead. For the game, Ahearn was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and two doubles. Offensively, she was joined by senior Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) as Jones added two doubles and was 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ashley Eberle (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) added a double for the Gators.
On the mound, freshman pitcher Gabriella Skillen (Milford, NY/Milford Central) racked up her second straight win as she fanned three, yielding just two earned runs in eight innings of work. Skillen stands at 2-10 on the year.
Sage’s sophomore pitcher Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY/Chatham) racked up a season-high five strikeouts in collecting the win for the Gators. Knights moved into the No. 10 spot on the Sage career strikeout record list as she now has 60, moving ahead of Kris Cool’s, 56 strikeouts. Knights also moved up to the No. 9 spot on the career record with her 179.1 innings of work.
Offensively, Sage was led by home runs from sophomore Meghan Welcome (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) and rookie catcher Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany), while Jones was 4-5 with three runs scored another double. Jones continues to add to her career record double standard as she has 34, including 10 this year, which is second all-time on the single-season record book. Jones also finished the day with seven hits, elevating her career standard to 133, which is now second best as she moved ahead of Paula Weeden’s 131 career hits.
Welcome paced the Gators with her three run shot in the top of the first inning, while Ingalls drove in a pair with her shot in the fourth inning. Sage connected for 16 hits in the game, with four extra-base hits.
Sage returns to action on Sunday, April 18 for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Mt. St. Vincent, commencing at noon.
