ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College had its winning streak snapped by visiting Utica tonight at the ACP Athletic Complex. The Pioneers took the Empire 8 Conference game by a score of 2-0.
Freshman midfielder Gian Rodriguez led Utica (7-5-1/4-2-0 E8) with a goal and an assist. The rookie put the Pioneers on the board in the 55th minute with an unassisted goal. With 13:37 remaining, he helped junior midfielder Michael Bernardo tack on an insurance marker. Sophomore midfielder Brady Barnard also assisted on the tally.
The Gators (8-6-2/3-4-0 E8), which entered tonight winners of four-straight games, had their chances throughout the 90 minutes. RSC out-shot Utica 18-15 and tooked six corners as compared to only two for the Pioneers.
Junior goalie Nolan Murphy (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) (Loss, 3-4-1) made six saves, while Utica sophomore goalie Foti Xidias (Win, 7-4-0) stopped seven RSC shots.
Looking ahead, both teams are in action on Tuesday. The Gators host #19 SUNY New Paltz at 7:00 pm. Utica plays at Hobart at 4:00 pm.
