St. Joe's tops Sage in women's tennis action, 8-1
Sage fell to the Eagles on Saturday in Skyline Conference play.
Albany, NY ----Sage's women's tennis team hosted St. Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference match held at Albany Academy. The Eagles of St. Joseph's posted the 8-1 win to improve to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the loss puts Sage at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Sage's sophomore Mackenzie Riley (Albany, NY/Albany) was a winner for the Gators at first singles as she beat senior captain Terri Leonard (Sound Beach, NY/Miller Place), 6-1, 6-0. The victory puts Riley at 3-0 in singles play this fall. Riley was tapped by the Skyline Conference this past Monday as the league's women's tennis player of the week.
Freshman Katie Soeder (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) defeated Sage's senior co-captain Kathryn Saulsbery (Colonie, NY/South Colonie Central) at second singles, 6-2, 6-2. Soeder teamed at No. 1 doubles with Leonard for an 8-6 win over Riley and Saulsbery on Saturday.
