Sage drops pair to Skyline Conference, foes Farmingdale

Troy, NY----Farmingdale State College posted a Skyline Conference sweep of the Sage College Gators on Sunday at Robison Field. Farmingdale improves to 18-6 overall and 7-1 in the league, while Sage falls to 0-20 and 0-8 in the conference.

Game #1   Farmingdale 8-0 Sage

Farmingdale’s sophomore pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) had a perfect game in progress until the fourth inning when Sage’s sophomore Ashley Eberle (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) and senior Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) tagged her first back to back hits to spoil her no-hit and perfect game bid.

Zino was helped offensively by sophomore Rebecca Richman (West Islip, NY/West Islip), freshman catcher Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and sophomore Shelby Martin (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) as they all collected home runs in the contest. Martin, Jarczynski, and junior Nicole Farber (Oakdale, NY/ZConnetquot) all drove in two runs apiece for the Rams.

Sage’s sophomore Kristen Knights (Chatham, NY/Chatham) took the loss (0-8) after 3.1 innings of work with eight hits allowed and four earned runs. Freshman Nichole French (Harrisville, NY/Harrisville Center) came in the game in relief for the Gators. Zino (7-4) collected the two-hit shutout win after strikeout out six in the game.

Game #2    Farmingdale 9-1 Sage

Farmingdale’s team would combine for 11 hits and nine runs in the nightcap as Martin, Jarczynski, and sophomore Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) all went deep in the game. Jarczynski and Martin tallied back to back solo shots in the top of the third inning for the Rams.

Sage mounted a rally in the bottom of the fifth, but were not able to get over the hurdle and fell 9-1. With one out in the inning, French singled before Eberle singled to right field moving French over and with two outs, junior Allison Bishop (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh)  singles in a run to put the Gators on the scoreboard.

Sage’s freshman Gabriella Skillen (Milford, NY) was given the loss pitching 2.1 innings with five earned runs with a walk and a strikeout. Farmingdale’s freshman Lauren Fitzpatrick (Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) collected the complete game win after strikeout out six in the game.

Sage returns to action on Tuesday, April 13 in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. at Robison Field with SUNY-IT.
