Gators Take Fifth at Skyline Championships

Bronx, NY----The Sage College's men's cross country competed on Sunday in the final event of the 2011 season, the Skyline Conference Championships. The event was postponed from late October when the heavy snows blanketed the area. The Gators picked up an impressive fifth place finish on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park with a score of 116 points, while St. Joseph's College won the men's championship with a score of 20.

Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Sean Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in 17th place in 30:13.25, while sophomore Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) posted a time of 30:16/82 to take 18th place. Rookie Jesus Vaquez-Lopez (Latham, NY/Shaker) was next in 20th in 30:21.48.
Freshman Collin Greenough (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland) took 29th place in 32:09.45, while junior Mesfin Solomon (Albany, NY/Albany) posted a time 32:35.09 and finished in 33rd place.
Freshman Michael Frempong (Ghana) had a time of 35:35.22 and took 44th place and rookie Richard Parker (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hill Ballston Lake) posted a time of 37:05.49 and finished in 47th place. Next for Sage was rookie Chris Darrow (Shokan, NY/Onteora) posted a time of 38:56.98 and took home 66th place.
Rounding out the Gator runners on Sunday was freshman Taylor McMillen (Wyantskill, NY/Averill Park) in 67th place in 39:39.33.
