Sage runners take home runner-up crown at Green Mountain Invitational
Poultney, VT----The Sage College's men's cross country competed on Saturday at the Green Mountain College Invitational. Hudson Valley College won the men's race with a score of 39 to win the team title in the 8 k race, while Sage posted an impressive second place finish with a score of 53. The Gators picked up the program's first runner-up title as they were second in a field of seven teams.
Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Sean Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in sixth place in 29:31 for his first top 10 finish. Sophomore Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) posted an eighth place showing in 29:42.
Junior Cory Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) picked up ninth place with a time of 29:46. Next to finish for Sage was freshman Jesus Vaquez-Lopez (Latham, NY/Shaker) as he was 12th in 30:00.
Sophomore Jason Applegate (Schenectady, NY/Mohanasen) who posted a time of 32:04 picked up 18th place.
Freshman Collin Greenough (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland) took 19th in 32:05, while rookie Chris Darrow (Shokan, NY/Onteora) posted a time of 35:59 and finished in 31st place.
Sage returns to action on October 30 when they will compete at the 2011 Skyline Conference Championships at Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx, NY).
