Hawks spoil opening day for Sage Women's Tennis

Oneonta, NY – Sage's women's tennis team opened the 2015 season on Thursday afternoon travelling to Hartwick College for a non-conference match. The season opener for both clubs, the host Hawks recorded the 9-0 win to improve to 1-0, while Sage drops to 0-1.

The contest saw senior co-captain Katie Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) make the start at No. 1 singles, but she fell in three sets to Hartwick's Heidi Rice, 4-6, 6-1, 10-1. Joining Schultz in the Gators' lineup is freshman Emily Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) as she took to the court at No. 3 singles, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Hartwick's Kelly Napolitano.

Katie Schultz teamed at No. 1 doubles with junior Alex Faas (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia), but dropped their first match together, 8-6 to Rice and Rose Natoli.

The Gators are back in action on September 5 travelling to MCLA for a noon non-conference match.
