Sage tramples Yeshiva in Women's Soccer Action, 9-1


Latham, NY---The Sage's women's soccer team collected an impressive 9-1 win over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Sage stands at 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the league, while Yeshiva drops to 0-7 and 0-5 in the conference.

Junior Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) tallied a pair of goals and two assists for six points in the match to lead the team, while rookie Katie Foley (Lansingburgh, NY/Lansingburgh) added two goals and assist as Sage lead 7-1 at the half.

Yeshiva's junior defender Rochelle Friedman (Overland Park, KS) broke up the Gators' shutout bid with the Maccabees' lone goal of the match at 31:17 in the first half. The goal was her second of the season as she chipped in a free kick and slipped the ball out of the reach of Sage's senior goalkeeper Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont).

Marszalek, who was named this past week's Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, leads the team with her 24 points on 10 goals and four assists. Dooley moved into a tie for the No. 3 spot on the season scoring list as she now has four goals and an assist for nine points. Sage would get two goals from players finding the net for the first time this season as sophomore Grace Collett (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet) and senior Samantha DeFoe (Galway, NY/Galway) each scored on the afternoon.

Sage's McDonald finished with one save in 35:57 of work, while sophomore Jennifer Poulin (Walton, NY/Walton Central) racked up four saves in 54 minutes of work. Yeshiva's sophomore Julia Schrier (Rochester, NY/Brighton) had four saves with seven goals allowed in 45 minutes of action, while sophomore Hannah Esan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) had one save with two goals allowed in 45 minutes of service.
