Sage dominates NYU-Poly and extends win streak to 3 games with 9-0 victory


Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's soccer team hosted NYU-Polytechnic on Sunday afternoon in a Skyline Conference match. The Gators dominated play and exploded for a season-high nine goals as they tallied the 9-0 win and extended the team's win streak to three games in the process. For the week, Sage outscored their opponents by an 18-1 margin.

Sage improves to 5-5 overall and with a 3-3 record in the conference, while NYU-Poly falls to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the league. Sage outshot the Fighting Blue Jays by a 33-2 margin and led 6-9 at the intermission.

Sage's junior forward Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) added five points in the contest as she connected on the first goal of the match at 5:05. By game's end, she had two goals with an assist. For the week, she tallied six goals with two assists for 14 points. On the season, the team's leading scorer now has eight goals with two assists and 18 points. She has 37 career goals with 81 career points, both of which are No.  2 on Sage's career women's soccer record book. She also has connected on four game-winning goals this season and 13 during her career at Sage.

Rookie Emily Dooley (Cropseyville, NY/Berlin Central) added a pair goals as well for Sage as the rookie now has three this fall after connecting on her first career goal the day before in Sage's 3-1 win over Purchase.

Senior defender Sarah Briggs (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added a pair of goals for Sage, the first two of the season for the co-captain as she has now played in 57 games and ranks in the top five all-time for games played at the college.

Sage's senior goalie, Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) and sophomore Jennifer Poulin (Walton, NY/Walton Central) shared the shutout win as they split time in goal. NYU-Poly's sophomore Cat Mistretta (Bellmore, NY/JFK) made 13 saves in the loss.
