Gators drop two in play on Wednesday in Florida
Clermont, FL---- The Sage Colleges softball team continued action on Wednesday with a pair of non-conference games at the National Training Center. The Gators fell 10-0 in the opener to Elizabethtown College (PA) and then faced Lesley University (MA), dropping a tough 9-5 decision. Sage is 0-4 on the young season.

Elizabethtown's sophomore Whitney Breneman (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) was 3-3 with four runs scored and three RBIs for the Blue Jays. Sophomore Lindsay Cooper (Mount Joy, PA/Hempfield) added a 4-4 effort with three RBIs to pace the team in the contest.
Sage's juniors Tiffany Bezio (Whitehall, NY/Whitehall), Ashley Eberle (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem), and Meghan Welcome (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) all tallied a hit for the Gators. Sage had their offensive rally cut short in the bottom of the fourth as they loaded the bases and left three runners on base.
Junior pitcher Julie Sebastian (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) connected for the complete game win as she struck out six and scattered three Sage hits. She improves to 2-1 on the season. Sage's freshman Jackie Petteys (Fort Ann, NY/Hartford Central) took the loss and falls to 0-1 after 4.1 innings of work. She fanned three in her debut.

Sage found themselves down 5-0 at the end of the first inning, but clawed back into the action as they gradually tacked on runs inning by inning and headed into the bottom of the fifth inning, trailing by just one run, 6-5. Lesley answered right back with three more runs in the bottom of the inning and finished with the 9-5 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
For the Gators, sophomore Emily Host (Gorham, NH/Gorham) and junior Rachel Smith (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) each drove in a pair of runs as Host added a double as was 1-2 with a runs scored and a walk.
Lesley's senior Ashley Cunningham (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) drove was 2-2 with a double and an RBI, while senior Alyson Durben (Stow, MA/Nashoba Regional) drove in two runs and was 2-4 at the plate.
Sage's freshman pitcher Katie Karkoski (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) took the loss to fall to 0-2 as the team's starter. Joining the action was Smith as she worked four innings and fanned two with three earned runs in her time on the rubber. Petteys also worked 1.2 innings in the contest and yielded just one hit with a pair of strikeouts in relief.
Lesley's junior Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) picked up the complete game win as she walked seven with six strikeouts and gave up five runs off four hits.
The Gators will be in action on Thursday, March 10 in Florida with another pair of non-conference games. Sage will face Northwestern College (MN) and John Carroll University at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
