Sage competes at 2011 Atlantic Regional Championships
Canton, NY----The Sage College's men's cross country competed on Saturday at the 2011 NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University. The host Saints of St. Lawrence University won the men's team championship with a score 89, just beating SUNY-Geneseo by six points (95). The two teams earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III men's championship next week. Geneseo's senior Lee Berube won the men's crown with his impressive time of 24:41.3 to win the championship.
Sage picked up a 39th place finish for the meet in just their second appearance in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals and competed in a tough men's field that featured 272 runners.
Sage's sophomore Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) posted a time of 29:27.3 to finish as the top Gator runner as he took 216th place. Next to finish for the Gators was rookie Sean Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) in 226th place in 29:47.2.
Rookie Collin Greenough (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland) took 247th place 31:15.3, while sophomore Jason Applegate (Schenectady, NY/Mohanasen) had a time of 34:38.2 to take home 259th place. Rookie Richard Parker (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hill Ballston Lake) posted a time of 35:22.3 and finished in 262nd place. Freshman Michael Frempong (Ghana) had a time of 35:52.5 and took 263rd place and rookie Chris Darrow (Shokan, NY/Onteora) posted a time of 37:57.9 and took home 264th place to round out Sage's competitors on the day.
Sage returns to action on November 20 when they will compete at the 2011 Skyline Conference Championships at Van Cortlandt Park at noon.
