Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team hosted the No. 3 ranked Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz on Friday night in Kahl Gym. The Hawks tallied a 3-0 win (25-12, 25-22, 25-22) to record the victory and stand at 23-3 on the year. The loss puts Sage at 7-16.
On April 6, Sage will travel to Ramapo College for the final Skyline Tri-match of the year facing both Ramapo and Purchase at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night.
The Hawks took the first set 25-12 and Sage then fought tough in the second set, falling 25-22. In the final set, there were 10 ties and five lead changes, the final coming at 17-16 as New Paltz took the lead for good en route to the non-conference win.
Sage's senior captain Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), who earned both ECAC South Division III Player of the Week honors as well as Skyline Conference Players of the Week status, had six kills in the match with one ace and four digs. He was perfect on the night with no errors on 18 reception attempts.
Senior Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) also connected for six kills with ass three total blocks.
New Paltz got a match-best 16 kills from sophomore Christopher Hussmann (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), while also added three digs and had no reception errors in his 23 attempts.
Rookie middle blocker Jake Roessler (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) added nine kills as the Hawks had a combined .361 attack percentage in the action, while holding the Gators to a 0.047 attack percentage. Sophomore setter Christian Smith (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) added 19 setting assists with two aces, while junior setter John Lutjen (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) connected for 20 setting assists, while adding an ace and two digs.
