2014 Team Captain

A three-year letterwinner for the Gators, Cory Gransbury was a two-sport athlete at Cairo-Durham High School, where he lettered in men's soccer and volleyball. A former team MVP for both sports, he was a first team all-star as well in soccer and volleyball. In volleyball, he was part of the 2010 squad that went 21-0 and captured the regional, sectional, and Patroon Conference Championships. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2010, he was also the recipient of the RPI Medal and a High Honor Roll student.

At Sage, he has the Gators to Skyline Conference Tournament appearances in both 2011, 2012, and 2013 now has played in 74 matches with 285 career digs. He was named the team’s Most Improved Player in 2012, while playing with his older brother, Ryan, who was named the recipient of the team’s Spirit Award.

As a junior, he played in 121 sets in 37 matches and racked up 16 aces with 161 digs. He averaged 1.33 digs per set in 2013 and now has a 1.2 digs per set average on his career. Gransbury enjoyed considerable success as the 2013 Gators rewrote the record book. Sage went 30-7 on the season en route to the 2013 ECAC Division III North Championship after finishing the season as the Skyline Conference runner-up.

As a team, the Gators ranked No. 5 in the team statistics in both aces per set (1.84) and win-loss percentage (0.811). Sage is ranked in the Top 20 in five additional categories. The Gators finished the season ranked No. 14 in kills per set average (12.1), while ranking No. 15 in digs per set (10.41) and No. 16 in assists per set average (11.18) and No. 16 as well in blocks per set (2.15). Sage also ranked 20th in Division III with a 0.238 hitting percentage in 2013.

He is majoring in physical education at Sage and is a Sage Scholar-Athlete honoree.
