Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team opened the 2013 season on Friday afternoon hosting the Wildcats of SUNY-IT in a non-conference match. The two teams played to a 2-2 deadlock in double overtime putting both squads at 0-0-1 on the young season.

SUNY-IT jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half, but the Gators battled back to force the extra two periods of play.  For the Wildcats, senior midfielder Kurreem Williams (Mt. Vernon, NY/TCI) tallied the first goal of the 2013 season at 5:57 on a feed from senior forward Josh Kimber (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango). Just before halftime, senior forward Diego Montaleza (New York, NY/MLK) connected for a goal (43:38) on a direct kick from about 19 yards outside the left side of the box.

Down 2-0 at the half, the Gators came out and were able to connect on the first goal of the afternoon as senior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) was awarded a penalty kick after a hard take down in the box and he made the most of his shot for his first goal of the 2013 season. Sage's all-time leading career scorer, Jarosz now has 32 goals and 65 points.

Sophomore midfielder Luis Teran (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) connected for his first goal as a Gator on a feed from freshman midfielder Christian Pinti (Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley) at 62:30. The two teams each had their chances to break the tie in the final minutes of regulation, but were unable to connect for a third goal in the match, even in two periods of overtime play.

In goal for the Gators, senior Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) made the start and turned away four shots he faced in 110 minutes of play. For the Wildcats, senior goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) had nine saves on the afternoon.

Sage returns to action on August 31 travelling to SUNY Cobleskill for a 2 p.m. match, while SUNY-IT is back in action tomorrow hosting Hilbert College at 5:30 p.m.
