Old Westbury, NY - Sage's women's volleyball team competed on Saturday in a Skyline Conference quad match on the campus of SUNY-Old Westbury. Sage tops Farmingdale State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-19). The Gators then beat SUNY-Old Westbury, 3-0 (25-5, 25-16, 25-5). The Gators are now 20-8 on the season with an 8-1 record in the Skyline Conference.
The Gators have secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2012 Skyline Conference Tournament and have tallied the team's first 20+ win season since 2008, when they last went 24-12 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament after winning the program's second straight Skyline Conference.
Against FSC, Sage was led by sophomore Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill Richmondville) as she had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Rookie Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) tallied seven kills with 11 digs, while junior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) racked up 27 setting assists with three aces.
In the final match of the day, the Gators topped the Old Westbury Panthers as Putriment had nine kills with a team-best 18 digs. Rookie Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added seven kills. Cooney connected for 25 setting assists with four aces.
Cooney now has a team-best 796 setting assists, while Putriment 249 kills. On her career, she has 626 career kills, while Cooney has connected on 2,297 career setting assists.
Sage returns to action on Wednesday, October 24 when they host Utica College at 7 p.m. in the Neff Center.
