Ithaca, NY - Sage's women's volleyball team opened action on Friday at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational. The Gators faced the tournament host, the Bombers of Ithaca College, but fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-18). In the nightcap for Sage, they dropped a 3-0 decision to Potsdam State (25-15, 25-12, 25-18). The Gators are now 16-8 on the year.
Against Ithaca, Sage was led by rookie Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) as she racked up five kills with a pair of aces, eight digs and three block assists. Sophomore Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill Richmondville) had six kills with 21 digs, while junior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) had 15 setting assists with seven digs.
Against the Potsdam Bears, Sage was led by Putriment as she had 12 kills with nine digs. She made just one reception error in 22 attempts for a .957 reception percentage. Robinson added five kills with a pair of digs.
Sage returns to action on Saturday, October 13 when they wrap competition at the Ithaca College Invitational facing Wells College and St. Lawrence University.
