Patchogue, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team faced a pair of Skyline Conference opponents on Sunday, while at St. Joseph's (LI). Sage beat Yeshiva University, 3-0 (25-9,25-9,25-8) in the opener and then beat St. Joseph's, 3-1 (25-22, 26-24, 15-25, 25-17). Sage improves to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Gators are off to the best start in the program's 41-year history.
Against Yeshiva, rookie Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) paced the Gators with her 9 kills. Rookie middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) added six kills as well. Sophomore Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) added 11 digs while classmate, Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) had 10 digs.
Junior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 23 setting assists with 8 serving aces.
Against St. Joseph's, the Gators posted the 3-1 win marking just the first and only set lost for the Gators on the season. Cooney had 35 setting assists with 16 digs and 3 kills. Drollette led the Gators with her 17 digs in the action, while Putriment added a double-double on 13 kills and 11 digs.
Robinson also connected on a double-double for the Gators with 10 kills and 12 digs.
The Gators will travel to Bard College on Wednesday, September 12 for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
