Annandale-on-Hudson, NY –A 21-10 run over the last eight minutes of the first half broke open a close game and led The Sage College women's basketball team to a 65-49 non-league victory over Bard College on Thursday night.
Sage (5-4) turned up the defensive intensity and forced 15 first-half turnovers, six in those last eight minutes of the first half.
The Gators pushed the lead to 22 in the first few minutes of the second half, and Bard (1-8) cut it back to 13 with about seven minutes to go, but that was as close as the Raptors would get.
Sage was led by junior Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) and sophomore Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central), who scored 14 points apiece. Bowman also had five of Sage's 16 steals. Freshman Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Bard got 15 points, 19 rebounds, three blocks and three steals from sophomore Tytravia Riley (Miami, FL). Junior Joanna Regan (Selden, NY) added 11 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore Bianka Bell (Stamford, CT) contributed 13 points and four assists.
Sage returns to action on January 11 hosting St. Joseph's College (LI) in a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference contest to be held in Kahl Gym.
